A school has been celebrating recognition from the Mayor of London as part of a new programme.

Bentley Wood High School, in Clamp Hill, has been praised by Sadiq Khan’s ‘Schools for Success’ scheme, which champions those who are experiencing academic success among all students.

The programme is part of a drive to tackle education inequality and increase standards for all schoolchildren across the capital, whatever their background.

The Stanmore-based school consistently ranks among the top schools when it comes to pupil progress, particularly among disadvantaged students.

Mr Khan said: “Congratulations to Bentley Wood High School for its outstanding achievements and for the hard work of its students and teaching staff.

“London has some of the best schools in the country and ‘Schools for Success’ shows the huge difference good quality teaching can make to students who started off behind in their studies.

“By sharing best practice with other schools around the capital, we can help every young Londoner reach their full potential and ensure that no child is left behind.”

In the first year of the programme, 102 schools have been recognised for their achievements.

They are being asked to share their methods through seminars and by hosting visits so that other schools can learn from their successful approaches.
