Pupils at a Jewish school were “thrilled” to win their first football tournament.
Students at Sinai Jewish Primary School, in Shakespeare Drive, Kenton, were crowned the winners of the inter-borough Brent Cup Football Tournament on March 29 at Silver Jubilee Park in Brent.
Despite never having previously made it past the quarter-finals, the football team soared to victory by scoring four goals.
In the first half, they took the lead after Year 6 student Ollie Tibber scored and then secured the win in the second half with strikes from Ollie Tibber again, Alex Brickman and Max Frankel.
Year 6 football player Dylan Stiassny said: "It's just amazing, we are so excited. It's such an honour and we are so proud to have won for our school."
It is the first time a Jewish school has won the competition and they received a trophy and “well-deserved” medals.
Year 5 teacher Robbie Solomons, who coached the team, said: "We are immensely proud of this sporting achievement, especially as it is the first time that a Jewish school has won the Brent Cup as well.
“The boys worked really hard, showed excellent team work and spirit and thoroughly deserved their victory".
