A WARNING has been issued after pregnancy tests used at Northwick Park Hospital and Central Middlesex may have been part of a faulty batch.

Women who took tests between March 23 and June 8 may be affected as it is believed around 1,200 Clearview HCG pregnancy tests supplied to both hospitals may have been damaged.

Manufacturer of the tests, Unipath, said 44 tests out of 83,000 supplied around the country could have given an incorrect negative result.

All pregnancy tests from the affected batch have now been withdrawn.

Michael Burke, medical director at the North West London Hospitals NHS Trust, said: "While there is only a very small chance, it is possible that we have received and used a defective test.

"As a precaution, the trust is alerting patients who had a pregnancy test carried out at Northwick Park and Central Middlesex Hospitals between March 23 and June 8 to contact their GP or clinic or consultant where they were seen at the hospital. Alternatively, they can obtain an over-the-counter test from a chemist."
