IAN SCHMID was the sensational match winner again for Parkfield & Headstone CC first team last Saturday, when they travelled to Totteridge II in Division 6 of the Herts League.

Totteridge chose to bat on a hot afternoon and a good wicket, but made slow progress against good bowling and fielding by P&H.

To counter some middle-order resistance, Schmid varied his speed and ended the innings with five for 57, his third contribution of five or more wickets in league games this season.

He was well supported with wickets by Robin Willis (2), and one each from Damien Stalley, Vasi Sheikh and Ben Murray, who last played for Parkfield 10 years ago.

Willis and keeper Gary Alford took two catches apiece, helping reduce Totteridge to 173 all out in 43 overs.

After the break, Schmid and Raj Kanabar took a liking to the home bowling and put on 168 for the first wicket.

Schmid fell on 94, caught trying to bring up his second ton of the season with his fourth innings maximum. Kanabar made a great 51 not out as P&H overtook the target in 27 overs for a fine nine wicket win.

  • Parkfield & Headstone's second team drew their Division 9 game against Datchworth second at home at Saddlers Mead, Hatch End.

After a disastrous start to the batting, losing three top order batsmen without scoring, Waseem Saber (43) Nainesh Shah (28) and Tim Garnons-Williams (25) helped PHCC recover to a final score of 150-9 in 53 overs.

Datchworth's batting was held in check, and three wickets each from Bhavesh Patel and Garnons-Williams, with one each from N Shah and Saber reduced the visitors to 80 for 8. The home side was unable to take the required two wickets in the final four overs of the innings, however, with Datchworth finishing on 84 for eight in their allotted 47 overs.
