The sky was filled with yellow and blue after around 400 balloons were released at an infant school.

Pupils at Kenmore Park Infant and Nursery School, in Moorhouse Road, Kenton, hosted a balloon launch on Friday afternoon – launching hundreds of balloons in UNICEF colours into the air.

Each child also attached a piece of paper to the balloons, stating what they thought to be the most important human right.

Having already achieved UNICEF’s rights respecting schools level one award – which means that the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is fully embedded within the school’s ethos - the school hopes the balloon release will put them on their way to receiving the level two award.

Ambreen Sadiq, the school's rights respecting and global links leader, said: “I feel that the children at our school feel empowered to respect the rights of children not only locally and nationally but also on a global level.

“They have shown compassion for children in parts of the world that are not able to enjoy their rights.”
