Patients are struggling to find a new doctor after their old surgery was forced to close down.

Wasu Medical Centre, in Kings Road, in Rayners Lane, has closed to the public after bankruptcy proceedings began against its senior doctor, Dr Paramjit Wasu.

Patientsreceived a letter dated January 30 from David Sturgeon – the head of primary care for South London – which said there was no option but to terminate all Dr Wasu's patient contracts.

A letter pinned to the door of the surgery says that services were suspended from January 28 due to the seizure of premises by official receiver.

An NHS England (London) spokesman said: “We have been informed by the Insolvency Office, that due to bankruptcy proceedings against Dr Wasu they will be closing Wasu Medical Centre in Harrow.

“Due to this closure, Dr Wasu is no longer able to provide primary care medical services so we have had no choice but to terminate his contract. This means services will no longer be available at the surgery after January 28.

“We are in the process of contacting patients to inform them of changes and are offering advice on where they can continue to access local medical care. Patients are being provided with contact details of alternative local practices where they can receive care.”

Patients are now trying to find alternative surgeries, with many being seen at the Ridgeway surgery, in Imperial Drive, North Harrow.

But many say they are struggling to get appointments.

One former patient said: “We all went to other catchment area GPs but they all said it would take more than three to six weeks as they are already too busy.”

The Harrow Monitoring Group was alerted to the closure of the practice after they discovered the letters sent to patients.

Husain Akhtar, part of the group, said: “NHSE probably knew that there is a problem brewing at the practice for sometime but they left the things to the last minute.

"Their chaotic action to direct patients to certain clinics has caused unhappiness in the South Harrow cluster GPs and patients – this is concerning.”
