It is now little over three months to the General Election. It is becoming increasingly clear that Britain and Harrow face a stark choice, in particular on the future of the economy.
Britain will either have a Conservative-led government, which will continue to cut the deficit, reduce spending on benefits and reduce income tax for the low paid or a Labour-led government, that will return to the policies of excessive spending and borrowing that produced the economic crisis that Britain is only now recovering from.
By taking tough decisions the Conservative-led coalition Government has reduced the deficit and if re-elected, will seek to eliminate it completely in the next Parliament.
The issue of the deficit is so important because the billions we borrow each year to fund spending has to be repaid eventually.
A continuing deficit means more and more government money goes on debt interest. The billions we have to spend on debt interest payments means less money for schools, transport and the police.
The Labour Party refuses to face up to this issue and instead comes out with ill thought-out gimmicks like the so-called ‘Mansion tax’, which will hit many ordinary families and older people in Harrow with bills for tens of thousands of pounds every year, just because of property prices in London.
The election will be a choice between sound Conservative management of the economy and Labour’s reckless spending and borrowing.
