I wholly endorse the thoughts expressed by John O’Neill (“Irresponsible behaviour”, Your Views, October 30) regarding the surfeit of fireworks endured by Harrow citizens over several evenings every autumn.
The area does indeed feel like a war zone during these aural and visual excesses.
Religious tolerance and multiculturalism are for me, the hallmarks of a modern, civilised society.
However, this must apply to everybody, including those not celebrating a given festival, whether it be Christmas, Eid, Diwali or whatever.
In this case, it cannot be beyond the wit of Harrow Borough Council to work with the religious communities concerned, to make a single, public firework display possible and to discourage what is presently a situation of temporary selfishness and contempt shown by some parts of our community towards everyone else.
