I was driving past where the old Boxtree pub used to be in Harrow Weald and noticed an older gentleman lying injured on the pavement.

He’d cut his forehead and hands, and I fear may have damaged some of his front teeth when he fell.

I stopped to help and he was already being attended to by a female passer-by who had first-aid knowledge, helped by two younger males.

Since the ambulance had already been called for, there wasn’t a great deal I could do to assist further.

What did strike me was the continued number of strangers pulling over offering assistance. One was a trained nurse, which was lucky.

It was inspiring to see so many people willing to stop and help a complete stranger. I believe the injured man was called Roger and that he lived nearby.

Even as he lay injured on the pavement, he was most apologetic and polite — a real old-school gentleman.

He was certainly the sweetest and most considerate casualty I personally have come across.

If anyone knows this gentleman, please show him this letter and send him my sincerest wishes for a quick recovery.

To those that stopped to help — you are all a credit to the Harrow Weald community.
