A man from Garston was awarded with an OBE at Buckingham Palace for his work with an organisation helping people vulnerable people from African and Caribbean backgrounds.
Clive Saunders, who is a magistrate and also chairman of Watford African Caribbean Association, was “overwhelmed” by receiving royal recognition last Thursday, November 16.
He also recently organised a gala dinner with 300 guests for the association’s 40 year anniversary.
The father of three, who has lived in Watford for 25 years, described how he “strives to make Britain a more equal society”.
He said: “While it was never my intention to seek any award for my services, the award has made me feel very proud of the work I have been involved in and the people that have been involved with me including my family.”
“I wanted to get involved because of my history of community involvement and I want to make a difference to the community wherever I live.
“The community faced many challenges, educationally, socially, in terms of employment and health, I wanted to be a part of seeking to make a difference.”
