FIVE candidates have put themselves forward to replace a Wembley councillor jailed for fraud.

In 14 days time, a by-election will be held in Wembley Central to fill the council seat vacated by former Lib Dem Vijay Shah, who was jailed early this year for committing a £60,000 fraud.

He was booted out of the party and eventually forced off Brent Council, leaving his seat open.

The council has published a list of the candidates, comprising representatives from the Lib Dems, Labour, the Tories, the Green Party, and one Independent.

Polling opens at 7am on Thursday, July 23, and close at 10pm at stations around the ward.

The full list of candidates is:

  • Yasmin Butt, Conservative Party
  • Martin Francis, Green Party
  • Jayesh Mistry, Labour Party
  • Afifa Pervez, Liberal Democrats
  • Tomas MacStiofain, Independent
