PUPILS in Eastcote celebrated reading on Friday by coming to school dressed as book characters.
The day at Haydon School, in Wiltshire Lane, was held to encourage pupils to appreciate reading.
During the day the schoolchildren participated in a workshop by author Joe Craig and received a performance from award-winning poet Adisa.
Staff at the school put on their own production of Snow White at the end of the day.
The pupils dressed as characters included Harry Potter, Frankenstein's monster and the Queen of Hearts, from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland.
Key Stage 3 co-ordinator Lauren Baker said: "It was great for the children to dress up and embody the book characters.
"It is important they understand how powerful words can be and they saw this through the performance by Adisa.
"They were absolutely hooked by him and also by Joe Craig.
"Everyone worked really hard to create the costumes and hopefully they now realise how important reading is."
