Trade unionists were among those who gathered in Clerkenwell to mark May Day this year.
A variety of different groups – including the Socialist Workers Party, trade unionists from Unite and anti-fascists – were seen at the start of the march in Clerkenwell Green on Wednesday (May 1).
The event marked International Workers’ Day, which dates back to 1886.
Workers marched towards Trafalgar Square, where a mass rally took place, with speakers including RMT’s Mick Lynch.
Palestinian flags could be seen among the crowds, as well as signs reading – “stand for world peace, condemn the war hawks”.
Activists in London were not the only ones taking to the streets. Similar events were held across the world, including in Turkey where police used tear gas and fired rubber bullets at crowds.
