READERS have expressed their shock at cruel vandals' rampage at a shelter for pets.

Rabbit hutches and chicken pens were trashed on Thursday, December 27, and several guinea pigs were taken, when the centre was broken into again on Sunday, January 13.

Two ducks were found dead at the far end of the field, which appeared to have been gnawed on by a fox after they escaped.

Stan Atkins, 70, has run Pets Corner in Petworth Gardens, Hillingdon, for 35 years and fears there will be no end to the recurring problems.

In response, Hillingdon Times website reader Shah, posted: "This is absolutely sickening. These vandals have no respect for any kind of life - hope the police find them and chop their hands and legs off so that they become helpless and then put in a closed compound where we can all go and throw stones at them.

"I am a great believer in what goes around comes around but I believe that this sort of a punishment would be too light for them."

Another reader, Vicky posted: "I am disgusted at what these people have done, they are sick.

"I do hope there are some kind people out there who can perhaps help Stan in making the place more secure by perhaps providing fencing or an alarm for him."

Since publishing our story we have received many offers of support and help for Stan.

Anyone interested in helping Stan can contact him through Hillingdon Times reporter Manisha Mistry at mmistry@london.newsquest.co.uk.
