The latest stage of demolition of four blocks of flats to make way for more than 150 new homes is underway.

The flats in Mill Farm Close, Pinner, are being demolished to make way for the new homes which are being built by housing association Catalyst in partnership with Harrow Borough Council.

The project, costing £22million, will include the construction of 158 new homes with a mixture of family houses and flats.

The latest stage of demolition is making way for the second phase of the development with 56 homes already completed.

Portfolio holder for housing Councillor Bob Currie said: “This demolition marks the start of a new stage in this community’s journey.

“This project will breathe new life into Mill Farm Close and provide the quality homes that tenants and residents deserve.

“We are grateful to Catalyst for working so closely with us to develop these plans and to Higgins, who have done a brilliant job on site so far.

“Also to the existing residents and tenants, who have been involved every step of the way and have been so committed and enthusiastic about rejuvenating their community.”

Leader of the council Thaya Idaikkadar and Mayor of Harrow Nizam Ismail joined Cllr Currie at the site to see the start of the latest stage.

Councillor Idaikkadar said: “With the demand for housing on the rise, it is excellent that we are available to provide these new homes.

“Availability is low, so this development will go a long way to offering housing to those who need it in our borough.”

Properties in the development will be made available for people on the council’s housing register, shared ownership schemes and for private sale.

The site had previously been made up of 110 flats, with 86 of them rented by council tenants and 24 owned by leaseholders.
