A report in last week’s Watford Observer indicates that our mayor Peter Taylor has raised the ugly head of the MLX again (Mayor ‘resurrects’ Met Line proposal, February 21). Mayor Taylor has written to the Prime Minister urging him to help revive the aborted MLX scheme.

The MLX project to divert the line to Watford Junction would mean closing Watford Met Station which would be a brainless abstract idea. Closing Watford Met Station would mean thousands of commuters now being diverted to Watford Junction every day that is already rammed solid.
I can understand our mayor’s thinking when he writes to Boris Johnson saying he welcomes the PM’s commitment to providing people with more choice to use sustainable modes of transport. However, if Mayor Taylor wants to close Watford Met Station it would mean one less choice of mode of transport for commuters to use.
I only hope Mayor Taylor doesn’t follow in the footsteps of our previous mayor and blow millions of pounds on this sorry saga that has continuously rumbled on for years now, albeit with significant cost escalation and with significant risks.
