Roads in and around Watford town centre are set to get more congested in March due to a road closure.

The tunnel in Water Lane will be closed for three weeks because Network Rail is rebuilding a section of railway bridge.

The closure will be in force all day and every day from Monday March 2 until Sunday March 22.

Water Lane is a useful road for drivers going between Watford and Bushey, because it helps avoid Bushey Arches.

But with the road shutting, all the traffic is going to be forced to find different routes - most likely Waterfields Way or Lower High Street.

Diversion signs will be in place for motorists.

Only the tunnel in Water Lane will be closed, so there will still be access at the top end of Water Lane near the ring road and for the Premier Inn hotel.

Bushey Hall Road will also be open as far as the tunnel.

Saturday March 14, when Watford FC play at home to Leicester, is a day to watch out for on the roads while the closure is ongoing.

The Premier League fixture kicks off at 12.30pm.

Watford have no other fixtures at home while Water Lane is closed.
