This is the horror moment a driver smashes into the back of another car on a motorway - almost causing a high-speed pile up.

Filmed on a lorry driver’s dash cam the heart-stopping footage shows an SUV hurtle into the back of a Suzuki which had broken down in a live lane.

The collision, at junction 17 of the M25 motorway for Maple Cross, causes both cars to spin out of control as glass and debris is sprawled across the carriageway.

It took place on February 13 at around 9.45pm and almost led to a motorway pile-up.

Other drivers travelling behind the two cars involved in the crash can be seen slamming on their brakes to avoid further collisions.

The driver of the SUV can be seen braking as he gets closer and closer to the stranded vehicle before smashing into it.

The driver is caught on camera jumping out of his vehicle immediately, clearly in shock by what had just happened.

Thankfully no one was seriously injured in the crash with police later attending.

This footage, captured on a Nextbase dash cam, was shared to police by HGV driver, Neil Pillow, but no further action was taken.

Mr Pillow also provided the clip to Nextbase to help raise awareness of safe driving.

He also sent his clip to the National Dash Cam Safety Portal, where the public can submit dash cam videos directly to the police.

Nextbase encourages drivers who capture incidents on the roads to come forward with any footage that might help the police.

In 2019 there more than 10,000 uploads to the portal, of which 50 per cent resulted in some form of prosecution.
