A woman is appealing for help to find her cat which was allegedly stolen by a delivery driver.

Nine-year-old female Tortoiseshell Tilly was spotted being put into a large white Transit van in Chenies Way, Watford, at around 4.30pm on Sunday.

Owner Jennie Prest said a neighbour was looking through his window and saw a delivery driver pick up the cat and put it in the front of his van.

However, after a couple of stops, Tilly is believed to have escaped from the van and she is thought to be somewhere in the Holywell area of west Watford.

Despite Facebook posts urging people to look out for Tilly reaching more than 1,000 shares collectively, the search for the cat has so far drawn a blank.

Tilly is quite distinctive-looking, with four white paws and a mixture of dark and light brown skin. She is not wearing a collar.

There has been no sighting since she was seen being put into the van.

Ms Prest has contacted the courier the delivery driver was working for and she says the company told her the driver claimed 'he just wanted to feed the cat'. The driver added that the 'cat jumped out two or three stops later'.

Ms Prest said: "Tilly has lived in this area all her life. I think she is in the Holywell area, she may have ventured towards King Georges Playing Fields.

"She is a curious cat but approachable. The support to find her has been amazing, more than I thought I would get. Please if anyone sees her or has seen her, get in touch."

Hertfordshire Constabulary has confirmed it has received a report of a theft of a cat.

Police say the suspect is described as white, between 40 and 60-years-old, with greying hair.

Anyone with any information about the theft or has been offered a cat for sale should contact police on 101 quoting reference 41/7905/20.
