In the winners’ booklet, the judges praised intu Watford, saying: "The reception from occupiers has been overwhelmingly positive and shoppers are thrilled to find brands previously unavailable in the town and activities to entertain the whole family.

"The addition of leisure to the centre means that families no longer have to travel out of the town, increasing the centre’s offer, stretching its trading hours and establishing it as a day-to-night destination."

Vicki Costello, centre director at intu Watford, said: "We are delighted to have won this Revo Gold Award. We set out to create a popular retail and leisure destination where customers smile thanks to the compelling experiences they have here, and retailers flourish, and we have succeeded.

"Our impact on the community has been significant too; we now provide 12 per cent of all jobs in our local authority and local employment rose by more than 30 per cent as a result of intu’s investment in the area.

"We have seen the desirability of Watford increase and we are very proud to have played a part in that positive story for the community."
