Emergency roadworks are causing long queues on one of the busiest roads in and out of Watford - on the same day work began in two other major streets.

Affinity Water were urgently called to Hempstead Road at around lunchtime today (Monday) to repair a water main.

The water main is actually in Grove Mill Lane, but requires multi-way traffic lights at the junction of Hempstead Road.

As of 3.30pm, there were delays both ways in Hempstead Road, towards Watford from the Hunton Bridge roundabout, and out of town from Stratford Way.

This is only likely to get worse into the rush hour.

Courtlands Drive is also busy as people look for alternative routes.

Affinity Water has been granted a permit until Thursday to complete the repair.

Temporary traffic lights are now also in place in both Rickmansworth Road and Whippendell Road - currently drivers travelling along Whippendell Road towards the town centre are most affected.
