Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann kept his first international clean sheet last night in Austria's 0-0 draw with Slovakia.

The 26-year-old made his first senior appearance for his national side in a friendly against England last week and is now looking to cement his place as first choice keeper at Euro 2020.

Austria will face North Macedonia, Netherlands and Ukraine in the group stages of the tournament, which begins this Friday night when Turkey face Italy, and Austrian head coach Franco Foda has said Bachmann will start in the first game.

Speaking after the England match, Bachmann said it was "special" to make his debut against England.

“It's always a great honour to make your debut for the national team – to play for your own country,” he said in an interview with the Austrian FA.

“For me it's even more special because I've been living in England for 10 years.”

Bachmann conceded just once in the game against England, while the likes of Harry Kane and Trent Alexander-Arnold gave him a taste of what he can expect every week when he plays in the Premier League next season.

The goalkeeper expects England to go far in the tournament.

“The squad England has is incredible really, the young players are pretty much world-class players already, it’s a top, top team,” he told Sky Sports. “England are one of the favourites going into the tournament for sure and I’d be very surprised if they don’t make the final.”
