William Troost-Ekong thinks the confidence gained from Watford's four wins in a row could be the deciding factor in their hunt for promotion.

The Nigeria captain admitted that mentally the team had been frustrated, particularly following a disappointing draw away at Coventry City earlier in the season, but said the change that has come about as a result of the current winning streak will help them better manage their attitude going forward.

While the defender is expecting the team's belief to be tested at times in the remaining weeks and months, he thinks that the positivity gained from the recent run of matches will help them bounce back from any potential setbacks.

"It's massive. I think the biggest underrated X-factor of the boys is the confidence and team belief," said Troost-Ekong. "It's hard to get because the only way you really get it is by winning or having good performances. I feel like now we've got the ball rolling, it's just up to us to keep it moving and try to manage our energy and also manage our expectations and, mentally as well, not to get carried away. I'm sure between now and the end of the season there's going to be disappointments as well.

Harrow Times:

"It will be important for us to remember what we've been doing well and how we can continue and there's going to be other moments where hopefully we can continue winning. We try not to get carried away, so it's going to be an exciting last couple of months and I think everyone's just really looking forward to it."

Driving the players to maintain their current level is head coach Xisco Munoz, who has repeatedly spoken about his team's need to improve, regardless of the result.

Troost-Ekong said that the head coach's demanding nature was not allowing the players to lose sight of their target.

"This is kind of his motto," he said. "He's always pushing us on, which is what you need, especially if you have a long term goal because I think if you get carried away on a couple of results or a win, you will lose yourself in this league, just because it changes so much.

Harrow Times:

"We've all said that we've got a long term goal, but we need to face it game by game and he puts a massive emphasis on that.

"He said the same thing after the Bristol game, even though that might have been a 6-0. There was, again, a lot of things that we could have improved on and I think the great thing that we're doing now is that we're looking at ourselves when we were preparing for games, instead of looking at opponents as much.

"We're really relying more on what we can bring to the table to a game and how we can take charge of a game instead of trying to prepare as much to react to an opponent. S

"He's just looking at our performance as a team, and not necessarily at the result, or how we played against one team because the other team might help, they might not have been as good on the day, and so it doesn't necessarily mean that we were fantastic.

"There's always room for improvement."
