Tom Cleverley is hoping Watford can upset his father this evening, when they face the side he supports, Nottingham Forest.

While Cleverley's father is a Forest fan, the midfielder told the club website that he forgets about his loyalty to the midlands side on occasions like today and instead will be rooting for his son's team to win.

Cleverley could be involved in the game tonight after returning to training earlier in the week after a period out injured with a calf injury.

“He's in the Watford camp,” said Cleverley. “He grew up in Nottingham at a time when Forest were one of the big clubs and it stuck with him. The first ever shirt I owned was a Forest one.”

The former Manchester United man has scored against his dad's side before, including on his debut for the Hornets, which came at the City Ground.

“I've got good memories of that one,” he said. “I'd only been here a couple of days and we were probably underdogs for that one. Tommy Smith scored, Danny Graham scored and it was the only time I played with Jobi McAnuff before he left. And Mike Williamson left soon after. It was a really good performance.”

Cleverley is expecting tonight to be a tougher game than it appears on paper, with Forest sitting just above the relegation zone, having won just three games so far this season.

However, in order to overcome their opponents, Watford will have to put their poor away form behind them.

“They'll be well organised,” he said. “Teams always are under Chris Hughton. They will be desperate for a result. On paper, they have a strong side, with some quality and some match-winners so it's going to be a tough game for us. We are going to have to be on top of our game.

“[Our away form] is something we are aware of, especially the number of goals.

"We want to address that. We've now got a few formations we can go to and we are not predictable, but we definitely want to improve our away record.”
