Watford will be able to host 2,000 supporters at Vicarage Road when lockdown ends, starting with the home game against Cardiff City on December 5.
It was announced today that Hertfordshire will be placed in Tier 2 of the Government’s revamped Covid system when it emerges from the national lockdown on December 2, meaning the Hornets are not able to host the maximum number of supporters permitted to attend football matches, but will still be able to admit some.
Outdoor venues in Tier 1 areas – those considered lowest risk – will be permitted to admit up to 4,000 spectators to an event or allow 50 per cent capacity, whichever is lower.
Outdoor venues in Tier 2, which for now includes Vicarage Road, are permitted to admit up to 2,000 fans or 50 per cent capacity, whichever is lower, while the caps are set at 2,000 and 1,000 respectively for indoor venues in tiers one and two.
The Watford Observer understands the club are ready to launch their ticket ballot soon, but are currently awaiting further government advice on social bubbles, and how many people can attend games together, before they start the communications process.
The number of supporters allowed to enter the ground could change before the end of the year, with allocated tiers set to be reviewed on Wednesday, December 16.
Should Hertfordshire be moved into the Tier 1, then the club would be able to double the number of people allowed to enter Vicarage Road.
