Craig Cathcart has spoken of his disappointment after Watford threw away an early lead to draw 1-1 with Queens Park Rangers.

Ben Wilmot had put the Hornets ahead inside three minutes at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, but a lacklustre second half performance saw them struggle to create any further chances.

Rangers snatched a point with just 12 minutes remaining, meaning Watford have now drawn from winning positions three times so far this season, and missed out on going top of the table at the weekend.

Head coach Vladimir Ivic said his side had played without passion or energy, and Cathcart told the club website that they should have come away with all three points, but was ultimately glad that they did not end up losing the game.

“We are disappointed overall,” said Cathcart. “We should have been out of sight in the first half with the chances we had. We didn't take them and then, if you are not going to win, it's important you come away with the next best thing."

The Northern Ireland international admitted QPR's pressing had caused them problems, while there was little spark in the Hornets' attack at the other end of the field.

Harrow Times:

Watford now have to focus on a difficult trip to third place Bristol City on Wednesday evening.

“They pressed us a bit higher and we didn't get going in the second half,” said Cathcart.

“We had a couple of opportunities on the break we could have done a bit better with. We defended well overall, we defended the box well so we are disappointed with the goal.

“It was a game of two halves, really. The Championship is a difficult league and there are no easy games. We'll take the point and move on to Wednesday night.”
