Injured Watford midfielder Tom Dele-Bashiru has said he is improving day-by-day as his road to recovery continues.

The Nigerian damaged his anterior cruciate ligament during the Hornets' away defeat at Reading and had to undergo surgery.

In an interview with the club website at the end of last week, he said he is resting and working on recovering as quickly as he can.

“I'm okay,” he said. “I'm improving day by day. There is not much I can do, just rest and ice it religiously.

“It was a big disappointment for me as I started the game pretty well and was growing into the game, but I got my head around it quite quickly and the focus is now on recovering and getting back as quickly as possible.

Harrow Times:

“I'm not thinking now about how it happened and how I could have avoided it. I'm keen to keep my mind clear and get back.”

Dele-Bashiru's teammates have been offering their support to the player during his time on the touchline. He also said his surgery went well.

“The lads have been great and supportive,” he said. “I know they will be here for me. Some of the lads have said how you can't do much to change what happened. You've just got to work as hard as you can and be better than you were before.

“The surgery went really well, the surgeon was really happy and now I have a clear picture of what I'm doing. It will be a massive boost to be back around the training ground on a full-time basis and start to strengthen both legs. I'm looking forward to being back around the lads.”
