Former Watford defender Adrian Mariappa is being eyed for a move by Championship club rivals Bristol City, it has been reported.

Bristol Live is reporting that the Robins have held talks with Mariappa, who left the Hornets as a free agent in the summer transfer window, although no final decision has been taken by the club.

The defender left Watford after no agreement was reached during discussions regarding a potential extension to his deal.

While no decision has been made to bring Mariappa to Ashton Gate, Bristol Live claim a move could be sealed in the coming days with the defender allowed to leave international duty with Jamaica to sort a potential deal.

Last month Watford CEO and Chairman Scott Duxbury said it was a "huge mistake" to not tell fans that Mariappa had left the club, with no statement having been released by the club confirming the player's departure.

Duxbury said that he should have communicated with the fans and recognised the contribution of a man who has spent a total of 11 years at the club.

Bristol City currently sit fifth in the Championship, while Watford are in second.
