The EFL remain confident that football would be able to continue should a second lockdown be implemented, the Watford Observer understands.
Prime minister Boris Johnson is said to be considering imposing national lockdown restrictions next week with experts warning that the coronavirus is "running riot".
When national restrictions were imposed in March of this year, football ground to a halt before resuming in June, with strict protocols in place.
The EFL believes that the continued use of these stringent measures means they are not at risk of suspending the division should a second national lockdown be implemented, however they do understand that rules placed on them from the government could force their hand.
The Watford Observer has been told that games are expected to continue unless the league are told otherwise.
