Danny Welbeck has left Watford on a free transfer after having his contracted terminated.

The Hornets have confirmed they have agreed to part ways with the former Manchester United and Arsenal striker, clearing the way for him to find a new club and further reducing their wage bill.

Although the international window closed last night, EFL clubs are still able to trade with Premier League clubs until October 16.

The 29-year-old moved to Vicarage Road last summer, but sustained an injury early on in the 1-1 draw at Tottenham Hotspur in October that ruled him out for more than four months.

However, he was to play an increasingly prominent role following the resumption of the season in June as the Hornets were unable to preserve their top-flight status.

Welbeck scored three goals in a total of 20 appearances at Vicarage Road and the club have stated they “wish Danny every success in the future”.
