Watford striker Glenn Murray has said he is focused on helping the club get back into the Premier League ahead of what promises to be a tough season in the Championship.

In an interview for the club Youtube channel, the forward who arrived from Brighton this summer said he had made the switch in order to play more football, but knows he can help off the pitch as well.

"First and foremost I've got to go back to the previous year and I didn't expect Watford to be in this position," he said. "But unfortunately we are now. I'm just here to try and help Watford get back to where they belong, which is back in the Premier League.

"It's going to be even harder this year, even more condensed, it's going to put our bodies through it, especially some of the young lads I'm sure who are maybe a bit more used to playing Saturday to Saturday, there's going to be a lot of midweek games there, but I'll be here and I'll be trying my best and I'll be someone to bounce off if they need any advice or if they need a shoulder."

Murray has performed well in the Championship before, scoring 23 goals in 45 games in the 2016/17 season with Brighton.

The 36-year-old believes the key to success lies in momentum.

"Being successful is momentum, one, two, three wins that you're expected to win and then just carry on in that vein," he said. "With the games this year coming thick and fast - Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Wednesday - if we can get that momentum it'll take us a long way."

In order to join the Hornets, Murray had to step down a level from the Premier League.

However, he said it was an easy decision to make and believes Watford have a strong enough squad to get back to the top flight at the first time of asking.

"To be honest [it was] not a tough decision at all," he said. "My time has been brilliant at Brighton, I couldn't have wished for any more, it's gone perfectly but I think now's the right time for a new challenge and this seems a good challenge to me and I'm just here to help the squad and help the team get back to where they belong.

"The Championship is a relentless league, but I think the squad that we've got is very capable of bouncing right back and that's the aim."
