Marseille have announced the signing of Pape Gueye, whose Watford career was supposed to begin from yesterday.
Having signed a pre-contract agreement with the Hornets earlier this year, Gueye was expected to join upon the expiry of his contract with Le Havre.
On April 29, Watford released a statement on their website saying the player had signed and would be joining and until recently it was understood they were planning to register the player as expected.
However, after Gueye repeatedly tried to back out of the deal, claiming he was "badly advised", an amicable solution was sought.
The Watford Observer was told early yesterday morning that talks were ongoing between the two sides and likely to be concluded "quickly".
That deal was completed yesterday afternoon, with Marseille announcing it via their website and social media channels.
