Watford fans have named Ben Foster their player of the season so far, after voting in the Watford Observer's online poll.

Over 1,000 people got involved in the debate and the goalkeeper picked up 42 per cent of the votes, making him the clear favourite.

Foster beat competition from Etienne Capoue, whose performances this season put him in second position with 26 per cent of the vote, while new arrival Ismaila Sarr has clearly impressed supporters, as he picked up 21 per cent of the votes in third.

Also recognised were the contributions of Christian Kabasele, who came fourth with six per cent, and captain Troy Deeney, whose resurgent form under Nigel Pearson put him in fifth with five per cent.

Foster, who was recently named goalkeeper of the year at the London Football Awards, has kept nine clean sheets this season, putting him in the top five keepers in the Premier League. He also has the sixth highest number of saves in the division.

Most importantly for Watford though, his performances have kept his side in games this season, with clean sheets at home to Bournemouth and Tottenham among his best, while his save to deny John Fleck away at Sheffield United will live long in the memory.

The future of the current season remains uncertain, but if it is able to resume in one way or another, Foster will have a big part to play in the Hornets' push to avoid relegation.
