Watford failed to make the most of some early chances in their game at Old Trafford and were subsequently punished by Manchester United, who claimed a comfortable 3-0 win.

VAR denied Troy Deeney a second-half equaliser, after which the hosts added two goals to their tally to extend the Hornets' winless run to five games.

Here's how we rated their individual performances.

Ben Foster - 4

Brought down Bruno Fernandes for the penalty and should have got back on his line for the second goal. While there was little he could do to stop the third, his overall showing was uncharacterstically poor.

Adam Masina - 4

Got forward well at times, but did little to cause United any problems. Should have used his initiative to get on the line for the second goal, almost gifted Odion Ighalo a late finish.

Craig Cathcart - 4

Couldn't deal with the home side's attacking threat and for the most part looked all over the place.

Christian Kabasele - 5

Arguably one of Watford's better players, although that isn't saying a great deal. He too looked uncomfortable with United's attacking threat, particularly in the second-half.

Craig Dawson - 3

Had a torrid time up against Dan James and Fernandes, who regularly doubled up on him. Deployed out of position and it really showed.

Will Hughes - 4

No control through the midfield, gave the ball away with noticeable regularity.

Etienne Capoue - 3

An awful game compared to the lofty standards fans have come to expect. His attempt to tackle Mason Greenwood before the third goal summed up his day. Completely off the boil.

Abdoulaye Doucoure - 5

Did plenty of pressing and running in the first-half, but wasted a good chance early on with a heavy touch and his influence faded after half-time.

Roberto Pereyra - 3

Contributed almost nothing with a distinctly poor effort. Largely anonymous and very underwhelming.

Gerard Deulofeu - 5

Put in much more effort than Pereyra, but was still unable to produce anything too noteworthy, other than a shot off the bar.

Troy Deeney - 3

Wasted a golden chance three minutes in and never really recovered. Unlucky to have a goal chalked off, but that was far from his biggest problem in the game.

SUBS

Ismaila Sarr - 5

Made a bit of an impact after coming on, but not enough to force a goal. Good to get some minutes under his belt after a spell on the touchlines.

Danny Welbeck - 4

Didn't add anything new after coming off the bench. Not entirely his fault, but he didn't stand out in any way.

Tom Cleverley - N/A

Joined the game too late to make much of an impact.
