Matheus Aias became the second out-on-loan Watford player to reach the semi-finals of this season's Copa del Rey after he scored to help Mirandes beat Villarreal 4-2 last night.

The young Brazilian joined the Hornets in 2017 from Spanish side Recreativo Granada and has since spent time on loan at both CF Fuenlabrada and Valencia. He is now in his second season with Mirandes.

Last night's quarter-final saw the 23-year-old score his fifth Copa del Rey goal from five appearances in this season's competition, taking his tally to seven from 21 in all competitions.

He opened the scoring as the mid-table Segunda Division side shocked their opponents, who are currently seventh in La Liga.

Aias, whose full name is Matheus Aias Barrozo Rodrigues, joins fellow out-on-loan Watford player Dimitri Foulquier in the final four of the competition, after Granada beat last year's winners Valencia on Tuesday evening.

The full-back played the full 90 minutes as two goals from former Tottenham striker Roberto Soldado sent them through to the next stage of the competition.

It is the first time Granada have reached the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey since 1969.

The final two quarter-finals will be played this evening, with Real Madrid facing Real Sociedad and Barcelona taking on Athletic Bilbao.
