Watford captain Troy Deeney would love his side to recreate their famous 3-0 win over Liverpool from 2015, but knows it will be a difficult task.

Four years ago an Odion Ighalo brace after Nathan Ake's third minute strike gave the Hornets a famous victory, but the captain thinks this Liverpool side are much tougher opponents than the ones they faced back then.

The skipper said he is hoping to make life difficult for the Reds in this afternoon's early kick off, but knows he will have his work cut out.

"We would like to [recreate that scoreline], but that wasn’t the same Liverpool team either," said Deeney.

"So it is very easy to say we would like to rough them up. Everyone knows what we need to do to get a result. It would be to make it physical, make it uncomfortable, rough them up. But we have got VAR - which sometimes works - and then you have got the quality of Liverpool. Have you ever tried to rough up Van Dijk? He is 6ft 6 and he’s massive. He can handle himself. Fabinho, Milner, Henderson, all these boys can look after themselves. They are not pushovers.

"It is a completely different us and a completely different team for them from four years ago, and you have got to remember that one was at home as well. So while we put on a great performance and we did what we did, that’s a long time in the past.

"We have to try and get to the level that we know we can do. There are a lot of teams that will wish they could beat Liverpool 3-0, but I don’t think there’s many that will."
