Wealdstone went seven points clear at the top of the National League South on Tuesday night after a 2-0 success over Eastbourne Borough.

A dominant first-half display saw Dennon Lewis and Jerome Okimo score the vital goals to put further distance between the Stones and Slough Town in the table.

Dean Brennan made two changes from Saturday’s stalemate with Bath City as Connor Stevens returned from suspension and Nick Arnold replaced the ill Michee Efete.

Lewis broke the deadlock for Wealdstone on 16 minutes, latching onto Okimo’s blocked effort before guiding the ball underneath keeper Tom Hadler.

Jacob Mendy came close to doubling the lead when his cross bounced back off the post, but the hosts did grab a second before the break as Okimo turned in the area and fired home at the near post.

Eastbourne improved after the interval and felt they should have had a penalty when Dean Cox went down in the area, but the referee waved away the appeals.

Aside from that, Wealdstone’s lead never looked in threat, and they held on for a comfortable win.

Next up for Brennan’s side is a home game against Welling United in the league on December 21.
