Watford suffered another defeat that anchors them further to the bottom of the Premier League, as Southampton overturned an early lead.

Ismaila Sarr's strike looked to have the Hornets in a comfortable position, but Saints' second-half substitutes turned the game in the home side's favour, while VAR played its part too, missing a clear handball in the build up to their equaliser.

Nevertheless, Watford still struggled to defend and conceded a second moments later, to send them back to Vicarage Road empty handed.

Here's how we rated their individual performances.

Ben Foster - 5

Made some strong stops, but should have done much better with the winning goal after getting two hands to the ball. Didn't cover himself in glory with the first goal either.

Kiko Femenia - 5

Looked like a possible route to goal for the Saints in the first-half. Lacked attacking threat.

Craig Cathcart - 6

Made a vital block on the line and throughout the first half kept the Saints attack under control. Missed having Craig Dawson or Kabasele there for support.

Adrian Mariappa - 5

Ought to have done better for Southampton's first goal, handball or not. Became overwhelmed after Boufal and Long were introduced.

Adam Masina - 5

Did well in the first half playing out of position, particularly in the first-half but his lack of experience created gaps for the home side.

Jose Holebas - 4

Allowed Moussa Djenepo to stroll past him for the goal. Regardless of the handball, he should have done better. Bull in China shop approach, with some poor set-piece deliveries again.

Abdoulaye Doucoure - 4

Lost count of how many times he conceded possession. His passing was all over the place on what was an off night for the midfielder.

Etienne Capoue - 6

Great pass for the goal, but his influence in the centre waned at the most important stage of the game.

Will Hughes - 6

Worked hard, did a lot of running and linked play fairly well, but better decision making could have helped kill the game off.

Gerard Deulofeu - 6

Watford lost an important outlet when he went off the pitch. Was a handful for the Saints defenders when he was on, but didn't create much.

Ismaila Sarr - 6.5

Took his goal very well, but wasted two other great chances that would have killed the game off. A flash of what he is capable of, but not enough.

Andre Gray - 5

Missed a wonderful chance to steal a point late on. Wasn't much of an outlet.

Joined the game too late to make much of an impact.

Dimitri Foulquier - N/A

Joined the game too late to make much of an impact.
