Watford have made contact with Nice regarding the signing of Allan Saint-Maximin, according to reports in both France and England.

The French winger looks set to leave Nice this season, after falling out with manager Patrick Vieira.

The former Arsenal midfielder is quoted in French media as having said: "Allan's problem is unfortunately that he thinks his talent is enough to reach the very highest level.

"He must understand that he needs to work and to make sacrifices. He needs to suffer. And unfortunately, he is yet to understand that."

The player is reportedly valued around the £25million mark and Newcastle United, Everton and Crystal Palace have all also been linked throughout the current transfer window.

The 22-year-old scored six goals in 29 games in all competitions for Nice last season, while also providing three assists.

Reports in France suggest that he could be the Hornets' top target this summer, ahead of Ismaila Sarr, who has also been heavily linked with a move to Vicarage Road.
