Watford are closing in on a deal to bring Craig Dawson to Vicarage Road.

Sky Sports is reporting a fee of £5.5 million has been agreed for the West Bromwich Albion defender and state the 29-year-old is undergoing a medical with the Hornets this afternoon.

Watford have been linked with a move for the player for several weeks and two weeks ago it was reported that discussions had taken place between the two clubs over a potential transfer.

The Watford Observer understood the Hornets were not in talks for Dawson at that stage and reported this, with it thought unlikely he would link up again with former Baggies teammate Ben Foster at Vicarage Road during this transfer window at that point.

However, we have been told that Watford decided to revisit a move for the Baggies defender after an approach for another player was unsuccessful. That move for Dawson now looks set to pay off although we understand there is still a little way to go before the deal is concluded.

The ex-Rochdale player moved to the Hawthorns in August 2010, immediately returning to his former club on a season-long loan, and also spent the second half of the 2012/13 campaign at Bolton Wanderers.

He has gone on to make more than 200 appearances in all competitions for the Baggies, scoring 15 goals.
