Watford played with 10 men for 80 minutes and pushed Arsenal all the way but a gallant effort went unrewarded as Unai Emery's side held out for a 1-0 victory at Vicarage Road last night.
The outcome of the game was ultimately decided by a costly minute for the Hornets as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang punished a mistake from Ben Foster before Troy Deeney was controversially sent off for a throwing his forearm into the face of Lucas Torreira.
Despite the odds being against them, Watford carried by far the greater attacking threat; Bernd Leno produced a number of good saves, Adam Masina saw a 30-yard rocket hit the woodwork, while Ainsley Maitland-Niles denied Andre Gray after he had rounded the Arsenal keeper.
Here are a selection of images from a frustrating night for Javi Gracia's men as they missed out on the opportunity to move up to seventh in the Premier League table.
