Wealdstone picked up a respectable point away at National League South promotion chasers Bath City on Saturday.

Robbie Cundy’s own goal gave the Stones the lead, but debutant Sol Pryce headed the equaliser to cancel it out.

The away side registered their first shot of the game after seven minutes when Stefan Brown laid off to Godfrey Poku on the edge of the box, but the midfielder fired wide of the target.

Bath responded with a chance of their own three minutes later, but Jonathan North had no trouble in claiming a tame effort from Ryan Brunt, and the Stones keeper was also alert to tip over Ross Stearn’s powerful drive.

Midway through the first half Wealdstone were presented with a golden opportunity to take the lead, but Tarryn Allarakhia saw his shot well saved by Ryan Clarke after being played through by Simon Mensah.

However, the opening goal still went their way soon after when Allarakhia swung in a cross from the right, and Cundy could only head into his own net.

Bath’s quality was clear though, and they continued to create chances, going close when Brunt fired across goal and when Bristol City loanee Freddie Hinds’s free-kick hit the wall.

The Romans continued this pressure into the second half and came close to beating North when Stearn’s strike was deflected over and when Brunt headed over from Joe Raynes’ set-piece delivery.

Both sides continued to trade blows and it was Wealdstone who almost found the game’s second when Jerome Okimo headed wide from Danny Green’s free-kick, but Bath came just as close when Pryce rounded North and saw his effort blocked by Okimo.

However, from the resulting corner, Pryce was given too much room and he was able to head home to bring the hosts level.

Bath did most of the pressing late on and had a couple of big chances to snatch all three points when Cundy, aiming to make amends for his own goal, only found the side netting and when Hinds had his effort blocked by a valiant Wealdstone defence.

The points were shared though, and the result leaves Wealdstone ninth in the table ahead of them hosting Chippenham Town this Saturday, with kick off at 3pm.
