Harrow resident Rachel Miller has been selected to represent Team GB at the upcoming European Athletics Indoor Championships.

Miller, 29, who is trained by Olympic gold medallist Linford Christie, will compete at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow this weekend.

She already ran a European qualifying time earlier in the indoor season but only secured her place on the team two weeks ago when she finished second at the British Indoor Championships in Birmingham.

Miller has shown a strong talent for running from a young age, training at Bannister Sports Centre until she took a break from the sport at 16.

She has since given birth to a son and came back to the sport in 2014, training alongside a full-time job and being a mum.

Miller currently works two days a week at the same sports centre she trained at previously, inspiring and coaching the next generation of children in athletics, as well as fitting in her own training whilst being around the centre.

On her selection, Miller said: “Being selected for the GB squad to represent my country is a dream come true. At the moment I am trying to focus on keeping both my mind and body in shape.

“My social life has taken a bit of a back seat but it’s worth it. I’m really looking forward to getting out there on the track and showing everyone what I can do on such a large stage.”
