Watford will enjoy their weekend following an impressive performance against Cardiff City in which they put five goals past the Bluebirds in the Welsh capital.

A hat-trick for Gerard Deulofeu and two for Troy Deeney saw the Hornets cruise to victory and here's how we rated their individual performances.

Ben Foster - 7

It was a quieter night than normal for Big Ben, but he still had one or two important saves to make.

He will feel a little bit disappointed to have not kept a clean sheet, but overall, he was his usual solid self and did most of what was asked of him.

Daryl Janmaat - 6

Going forward, Janmaat looked threatening and caused problems at the back for Cardiff, so on the face of it this score may seem a touch harsh.

However, he struggled with Oumar Niasse and Josh Murphy throughout the first half and never looked comfortable defending. Junior Hoilett also made life difficult after his introduction.

Furthermore, at 1-0 he put in a ridiculous challenge in the box that could have quite easily changed the shape of the match and can think himself a very lucky man to have got away with it.

Craig Cathcart - 7

Craig Cathcart is one of the most understated and perhaps underrated defenders in the Premier League. His consistancy is admirable, as is his no nonsense approach to the game.

He was calm, assured and got on with his job with a customary performance. He too will be disappointed to have not kept a clean sheet, especially with the way the goal was conceded.

Adrian Mariappa - 7

Not a lot was wrong with Mariappa's performance, but he is the player who most of the blame for Cardiff's goal can be pinned on.

He had the ball at his feet while under pressure and with his back to the game. Putting it out of play and allowing his team-mates to regroup was almost certainly a better option than playing the blind pass he did that ended up at the feet of Sol Bamba.

Forunately that mistake counted for little and he was strong, steady and worked hard throughout the rest of the game.

Adam Masina - 7

With Jose Holebas out through suspension, Masina was handed a rare start and had probably the least work to do out of all the defenders.

While Murphy and Niasse caused Janmaat problems on the right, Cardiff had very little going for them on the opposite flank and Masina dealt with everything they had to throw at him.

Going forward he could have got involved a bit more perhaps, but Watford's five goals suggest his presence wasn't missed too much up front.

Etienne Capoue - 9

This game showed how good a midfielder Etienne Capoue really is.

He dominated in midfield and his first thought when in possession was always to try and move the ball forward and create something in attack.

His pass for Gerard Deulofeu's third goal was perfect, after he forced an error out of Harry Arter, as was his through ball to help set up the fourth goal. A magnificent performance.

Abdoulaye Doucoure - 8

One thing all of Watford's league victories have in common this season is that they have come from having Abdoulaye Doucoure in the starting lineup.

He is a talismanic figure in the centre of the park and alongside Capoue he shut the home side out of the game completely.

He was given time and space to work in and he ran the Cardiff midfield, as well as himself, absolutely ragged.

Will Hughes - 7

Off the ball, there are few players who work harder than Hughes.

He chases down everything and always makes himself available to his team-mates whenever he can.

He did well to make space to set up Deeney's second and Watford's fifth goal.

Roberto Pereyra - 7

A much welcomed return to the starting lineup for Pereyra saw the Argentine cause one or two problems for Cardiff's defenders.

He was his typical self, running at players when in possession and throwing in the odd trick here and there.

Gerard Deulofeu - 10

The scorer of Watford's first ever Premier League hat-trick had a night to remember, as everything he touched turned to gold.

None of his goals were simple finishes, but he was clinical and single-handedly demolished the Cardiff defence.

Not content with scoring a hat-trick, he also pitched in and set up a tap-in for Deeney too. Simply superb.

Troy Deeney - 9

This was a true captain's performance from Deeney, as he led his side by example, scoring two, setting up another and dominating the Bluebirds' defenders.

He will be pleased with his own efforts after receiving stick from the Cardiff supporters about the size of his stomach.

Quina replaced Pereyra on 70 minutes, but slotted in more centrally and joined in with his midfield team-mates, passing the ball well and dominating possession. A good display.
