Javi Gracia says Domingos Quina showed maturity beyond his years after the teenager impressed on his maiden Premier League start at Everton last night.

Having come on as a substitute in the 2-1 defeat against Manchester City, Quina was rewarded for his display with a place in the first XI for the dramatic 2-2 draw at Goodison Park.

The 19-year-old fitted in seamlessly at the heart of Watford’s midfield and Gracia was delighted with his performance.

“It is not easy to play the first game, his debut,” Gracia said. “He had an amazing performance.

“Everybody knows he is a very good young player, but he has a great presence and an amazing future as well. He is always ready to help the squad like he did today.”

With Etienne Capoue suspended for one more game, Quina will hope to retain his place for the visit of Cardiff City to Vicarage Road on Saturday.

His inclusion on Merseyside does, however, raise questions about Nathaniel Chalobah’s standing in the Watford squad after the England international started on the bench.

Chalobah has struggled to make an impact when given the chance this season but did add some defensive solidity in midfield after coming on as a sub against Everton.
