Ben Wilmot made his England Under-20 debut as the Three Lions took on the Czech Republic on Monday night.

The Watford centre-back had initially been selected as a training player for England’s junior side and hadn’t been expected to feature in competitive action.

Wilmot's inclusion on the Under-20 side sees him make a step up in his international career having already played for England twice at Under-29 level.

England were made to settle for a draw on the road as they played out a 1-1 stalemate in the Euro Elite League clash.

The draw came on the back of a 2-1 win against Italy last Thursday and the Under-20s will return to action with a home meeting against Germany next month.

Wilmot’s appearance for the national side represents further progress for the 18-year-old who has enjoyed a positive start to life at Vicarage Road.

He impressed in the Hornets’ run to the third round of the Carabao Cup, playing in both midfield and central defensive berths against Reading and Tottenham Hotspur.

The former Stevenage man, who completed a £1 million move to Vicarage Road in the summer, will be looking to make a further impact on the Watford first team as the season progresses.
