On Thursday March 12, I attended the Gurkha Awareness Day at Pinner Fire Station, kindly hosted by Harrow Fire Brigade Commander Richard Claydon.

I was delighted to have been part of this special community event which enabled me to meet so many members of the Gurkha community.

On Friday March 13, I featured live on Harrow Community Radio. I was pleased to have been invited to talk on the radio channel, where I was able to discuss many areas of policing in Harrow.

Not only was I able to promote crime prevention and safety advice, but also discuss how we became the safest borough in London.

I would like to thank Harrow Community Radio for allowing me on the show. If you would like to know more about Harrow Community Radio, visit their website at http://hcrfm.org

Burglary

Burglary can have a long-lasting emotional impact on victims, leaving them feeling isolated and vulnerable. However, by taking just a few simple measures you can reduce the chances of it happening to you.

Why might your home be targeted?

Most burglaries tend to be opportunistic, rather than planned. Burglars usually choose houses that have little or no visible security. If your home does not look secure, seems unlived in, or provides unobserved access, it could be at risk.

Understanding what burglars look for when choosing their target will help you identify weak spots in your home’s security.

What makes a home attractive to burglars?

  • A high front boundary
  • Low side and rear boundaries
  • Wheelie bins accessible
  • No visible intruder alarm
  • No security lighting
  • Valuables on display
  • Open or unsecured windows
  • Unsecured garage door
  • Unlocked shed

You could also consider getting involved with your local Neighbourhood Watch scheme and make not only your own home more secure, but your local community too.

Good work by my officers

On the March 12, officers from Wealdstone Proactive Unit arrested a man wanted for grievous bodily harm.

The man was believed to be involved in a fight in Wealdstone High Street back in February, in which the victim received injuries from a rock used during the attack.

This excellent piece of proactive work has taken a violent offender off the streets of Harrow.
