A FRESH bid to open a Greek Free school in north London is due to be launched next month.

Proposals for the St Andrew The Apostle Greek Orthodox School will be handed to the Government, and if approved the school could open in September next year.

The school is backed by The Russell Education Trust and has won the support of senior Greek Orthodox figures including Archbishop Gregorios of Thyateira and Great Britain.

However, its bid last year was rejected by the Government, and organisers were told to iron out some problems and return with a fresh bid.

The new school would take in pupils predominantly from Enfield and Barnet, with up to 50 per cent being from a Greek Orthodox background, and pupils of other religions or no faith also accepted.

The organising committee said it has identified two sites in Barnet and one in north Enfield where the secondary school could be built, with an announcement due to be made in March.
