TWO teenagers injured at a court may have been attacked with a blunt axe, a witness claims.

The pair, both around 15 years old, were chased into Highgate Magistrates Court, in Bishops Road, at around 11.45am today after a row outside.

One was taken to hospital with head injuries and the other with an injured torso, and police confirmed they recovered a knife and an axe from the scene.

A female police officer was also punched and received treatment but returned to duty.

John Nelson, a sales assistant at Topps Tiles, saw three teenagers in hoodies flee the scene and says he was later told what happened by a court security guard who witnessed the attack.

He said: “He heard there was a shouting match and he separated the guys. By the time he went away and came back one was out the door and said ‘what are you going to do about this?’ “They axed him in the head, he fell to the floor and they began hacking his friend.”

He said the trio he saw flee all had their hoods up and one had a blue scarf covering his face.

The two injured teenagers were treated at the scene and taken to separate hospitals but have both since been discharged.

Mr Nelson said: “One came out of the court with a patch on his head. The other guy had a patch on his side. His mother came along and he was talking like he was in shock.”
