A SUPPORT group for Jewish mums and dads left coping with the loss of a parent while trying to raise a child has been given a cash injection.

Sarah Rosen, of Edgware, set up the Butterflies bereavement group, part of charity Jewish Care, after losing her mother while pregnant with her first child.

She says the support she got from parents in a similar situation helped her come to terms with her loss and she went on to set up groups for other mums and dads in the borough.

The organisation has now been handed £7,850 from fundraising group Pennies from Heaven and the cash will be used to create two more, one in Golders Green and one in Redbridge.

She said: “It’s fantastic. We are delighted that they have taken us on for the year and supported us. They really believe in our cause.”

Through Butterflies parents can meet at a place where their children will be cared for and they can talk to counsellors.

Ms Rosen said: “I was newly married and then eight months pregnant with my first child when my mother passed away.

“At the time when she was very seriously ill I made a promise to her that I would seek help at a time of distress.

“I was very close to her and you imagine your first baby growing up with your mum being there to support you.

“I googled every possible scenario for finding help. There was one book, which I read, and that was it. There was no support group, nothing.

“I thought there must be other people in this situation, I can’t be the only one.”

Anyone who wants to join a Butterflies group can do so by contacting Jewish Care.
